Camping - Soapstone

Jen and I went camping with the dogs on Friday. Kind of a last minute thing just to get out of town for the night. So we left work and packed up and headed to Soapstone.

I pick Jen and Teeko up and ask her "So..you know how to get there right?" and she says "No. I thought you knew how to get there." Oops! So she calls Steve and he gives us general directions so we can at least go in the correct direction! lol

So we start driving up the canyon. We have the two dogs in the back and Teeko has to look out the windshield so he knows whats going on. God forbid he take a nap in the car! lol So while he is enjoying his view, he is panting and leaning on my bare arm with his wet sweaty mouth. The whole time! We tried to block him but it wasn't happening. Next time I will wear a long sleeve shirt! lol

So we stop in Park City for some dinner and then head back up the canyon. We are looking for Soapstone Basin. So we are keeping our eyes open for the sign and for deer because there were tonz around and I didnt want to hit one. We finally see a sign for Soapstone Campground. We know we don't want that one cuz you have to pay to stay there. So we keep going looking for Basin. And we drive....and drive...and drive some more. We get to an elevation of over 10,700 ft! And we have been driving for a lot longer than I remember we should have. So we start to just pull into places hoping to find a spot. Everything is taken. So we head back down to see if we can find Soapstone Basin.

We finally see the sign for Soapstone Campground again and what do you know, the NEXT sign is Soapstone Basin! We drove almost an hour past our exit! So we turn in our correct exit and start to look for a place to camp. And we look and look and look. There are so many people!

We tried to pull into a few places and it ended up either not being big enough or it didnt have a place for a tent. So I had to back out a few times which wasnt fun in the dark with a tarp covering your tail lights! So we finally find a place that will work. Its right off the road which isnt ideal with our two dogs but its all we have. So we pull in and start to set up camp.

We left SLC at 6 and arrived at our camp site at 1030! We should have been there by 730 at the latest had we not gotten lost!

So we set up the tent and I bend one of the poles a little too far and it snaps. The tent is still able to be set up thank goodness cuz there is no way I was sleeping in the truck! lol

We also set up my cute little bathroom on a hill. Not the best place but its all we had.

Then we got our fire going and took a seat! The bugs were out so I wanted to put on my pajama pants so they wouldnt get my legs. I looked in the tent for my black bag. Not there. I asked Jen if she saw my bag. She said she didnt remember seeing a black bag at all. Only a green one. (silently freak out inside) I go look in the truck and there is NO black bag! Oh great! That bag had ALL of my clothes in it! So I had no pajama's...no sweatshirt...no pants...no nothing! What else could go wrong!? Oh and I only had flip flops to wear for shoes. Not even any socks.

So lucky for me, it wasn't that cold that night. Teeko wasn't a fan of all the noises so every 5 seconds he was growling or barking. Jen was up all night with him. I was good though. I pulled Lucky in my sleeping bag and zipped him in to keep me warm. ( I am sure he loved that ) I went right to sleep and didn't wake up more than once cuz I was cold. Jen on the other hand was up every time Teeko started to make any sounds.

Its finally morning. Teeko is really wanting out but we are right by the road so Jen gets up to tie him to a tree so he wont attack anyone on the road. But he is whining the whole time so she gets mad and just lets him loose! lol

We finally get up and have some breakfast. Bagels and cream cheese! Yumm. Lucky for us, i didn't forget any food. I did forget a camera as you might have noticed as there are no pictures.

Later that day I take a nap and Jen goes for a little hike. On her way back she notices my tire. Its really really low. Oh boy. Just what I need. Its not too low that I cant drive on it but I still probably shouldn't. Good thing we are going home soon! lol

So we pack up and leave and hit the gas station for gas and air.

We finally make it home in one piece!

So I call the shop yesterday to find out the status of my tire (it was low again when I got home) and I had 9 holes in it! What the heck did I do?!?! LOL

Oh what an adventure!
