Road Trip (Part 1)

Last minute road trips are the best. How do I know? Because I took one!
Jen and I went to Phoenix so visit a friend of her's who is moving to England with her husband. So we packed up our stuff and our dogs and hit the road!
The dogs were pretty excited. Lucky was very good in the car. He is used to road trips and just hangs out in the back looking out the window or sleeping. Teeko on the other hand, he was all over the place! Pacing, whining, trying to climb up front. He is one naughty puppy but we still love him!
Being that we were going to Phoenix where the weather was predicted to be close to 70 degrees, we didnt pack much winter attire. Well as we drove we kept finding more and more snow.
We were kind of getting nervous but figured when we got closer we would find the blue skies and heat.

Teeko finally laid down after a few HOURS!

Finally some blue skies!! Yay!
We stopped off at a view point and there was a little hike so I talked Jen into going on it so we could stretch our legs. We left the dogs in the car. We are jerks, I know.
Just when we thought we were in the blue... We saw this...

Not what we wanted to see. It was scary! But we made it though.

Later on this scary road Jen was going about 80 behind a big semi and a cop was going the other direction. So we watched and ... Yep, he flipped around and turned on his lights. Lame! We werent even in Arizona yet! She ended up getting a ticket for going 15 over. He didnt even take the MPH down at all. And this was her FIRST ticket EVER!

Phoenix is about 11 hours from Salt Lake. We were not going to make it. So we canceled our hotel in Phoenix for that night and made a different reservation in Flagstaff. Apparently that was not the best idea being that they had about two feet of snow! The roads were pure ice. But we had had enough driving for one day so we got to the hotel and ran to the store for a few things and Jen found a snoopy dog toy for about $2 so she got it for Teeko knowing full well that it wouldnt last the night. She was right.
It lasted less than an hour.
Lucky was beat and ready for bed in no time.

This is the front of our hotel. The parking lot is pure ice and it was freezing! We did not pack for this!
Just had to say, we have been on Route 66. We felt special.

Before we left that morning for Phoenix we headed to a park so the dogs could run and burn some energy, hoping they would get some sleep on the road. We stopped at this park and they went crazy! It was cute. Not so much for us since we had to walk in all the snow with regular shoes. But its all good.

Finally on the road and we hit a rest stop with NO snow! Yay!

More to come...
