Road Trip (Part 2)

The next morning after reaching Phoenix (finally) we headed to the Zoo. This is where we were going to meet Jen's friends.
This lion was so cute. All he did was sit there with his tounge out. It wasnt even that hot. Only 60 degrees that day.
When I was researching the trip, I saw that at the Zoo you could ride a camel! How cool is that?!?! So I told Jen we HAD to ride it! After a bit of twisting an arm, she agreed. Now I can say I have ridden an Elephant and a Camel!
They have a monkey cage that you can enter and get up close and personal with the little monkies. They warned us to not feed them or try to touch them because they do bite and we could lose a fingertip! Yikes!
That's not a creepy bird... Look at those eyes!
We then came across the Rhinoceros Hornbill. They were so strange looking. As we were checking them out, we saw one of the birds (we named the husband) come over and give the other bird (the wife) a grape. We thought it was so cute he was sharing. Then he starting pecking at her face and grabbing her tail and ripping the feathers out. What a jerk! Then he would go get her a grape again and share it with her. Crazy birds! They were cute to watch though.
Then we saw a peacock with his tail spread. They are so pretty! There were two females around him acting like he wasn't even there. Playing hard to get I guess :)
Here is Jen humoring me for a silly picture.
There was another enclosure that you could walk into that let you get close to some other animals. It think these were wallaby's
A group picture before we left the Zoo.

The next day we drove to an Ostrich Farm. It was about an hour and a half away from Phoenix. Totally worth it in my opinion.
We got to feed deer, which were soooo cute!
Then the main attraction...Ostrich. I have never been able to feed one before. This trip was all about new experiences so we had to do it. They look so mean and crazy!
Jen went first so I could get a picture. They almost steal your cup of food!
There was a sign stating...
They really do. Good thing they don't have teeth.

There was a lady there with us who was also feeding them. They bit her (of course, she was warned) and since they bit her, she said to them, "I hit back" and slapped it on the beak. What the heck? She thinks she can just hit them? Some people are just...For lack of a better word...Dumb.

We were also able to feed donkey's. They were cute too.

My favorite part was going inside to feed birds. You received a cup of nectar and held it in your hand and they would land on you and drink out of the cup. It was pretty cool.
Once the food started to get low, they started landing on our heads! I kept telling Jen that she was going to get pooped on. She didn't thank goodness.
One landed on my head and I immediately took it off and as soon as I lowered my hand, it pooped! All over my hand which is a heck of a lot better then on my head!
They had a shop that sold Ostrich Eggs. I didn't know you could eat them! Here is some interesting info. (If you cant read it, click on the pic and it will get bigger)

After we were done at the Ostrich Farm, we headed to a ghost town that we were able to take the dogs to. It was about 2 hours away.
It was pretty cool. It would have been better if we were able to take the dogs inside the buildings but we weren't. We just walked around and thought about leaving the dogs in the car while we went inside some of the shops but it was too hot.

After we were done at the Ghost Town we headed to our hotel in Lake Powell. We passed through Sedona which is where Jen was told to try the Prickly Pear Margarita. So of course we had to stop! She tried it. It was pretty expensive and not the best. She got a different drink to get the taste out of her mouth :)

Sedona was beautiful! I would totally come and visit Sedona over Phoenix any day!
Once we go to the hotel, we thought it was a good idea to teach the dogs how to jump across the beds. BAD IDEA! Teeko took full advantage of that and was driving Lucky crazy as you can see!
But they are still buddies! :)

This was by far the nicest of the 3 hotels we stayed in. They were all Motel 6 because they are one of the few that allow big dogs. This room had the biggest bath tub and bathroom, actual air conditioning instead of the kind by the window, but all of them had the same horrible comforters. The colors are just awful!

Teeko normally was sleeping in his travel kennel. Jen thought she would be nice and let him out for the last night. Big mistake! Because this was a nicer hotel, the air conditioning wasn't very loud so he could hear every little noise! And after each noise, he felt it necessary to bark and wake us up. Needless to say we got very little sleep that night. He also kept jumping on Lucky trying to get him to play but he was not having it. He needs his sleep too!
